The pops of nail guns and the hums of saws hung over two homes in New Haven, Conn., earlier this month as AAA Northeast employees supported a good cause.
Employees based at club offices in Garden City, N.Y., Providence, R.I., and Hamden and Bridgeport, Conn., traveled to New Haven to partner with a local Habitat for Humanity affiliate. Folks from each location used paint brushes, drills, hammers and good old fashioned elbow grease to assist in the construction of two houses for working, low-income families.
āIt was a lot of work but it was incredibly rewarding,ā said Elena Dunkerton, a senior publications specialist who is based in Garden City. āItās not every day that you have such a wonderful opportunity to make such a positive impact in the lives of others.ā
AAA Northeast is committed to giving back to as many communities as possible across its six-state territory. Thatās why the club offers employees paid time off for volunteer efforts and encourages employee involvement in giving committees that donate to a wide variety of causes.
In recent months, employees have volunteered at or donated funds to educational institutions, food pantries, cancer and ALS research, support programs for children with autism and other development disabilities, an urban after-school playwriting program and youth sports organizations.
